MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The African black oystercatcher (swart tobie or Haematopus moquini) has been chosen as the icon that will lead hikers on their way along Mossel Bay’s popular Cape St Blaize Trail.

∙ TO ALL OUR FRIENDS OF THE OYSTERCATCHER TRAIL........... BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS MAKE NEWS IN AMERICA AS WELL..........FOR THE BIRD OF THE YEAR !!

The matching good news for all those who have hiked the Oystercatcher Trail and who will still be doing the Trail is that our Oystercatchers have increased in numbers along the coast from Mossel Bay to the Gourits River.....

The Full moon has been painting its own yellow trail from the far off horison right up to our golden shores, the orange aloes are still in full bloom,  the Black Oyster Catchers have hatched their eggs on our open beaches and are feeding off the mussels with their juveniles .. and our sea is bluer than blue...

The Oystercatcher Trail has thrown their full weight in behind the Cetacean Project lead by Bridget James, a masters student from the University of Pretoria.

We have arranged sites for them at Springerbaai, Kleinbos, Vleesbaai and Fransmanshoek which will serve as land based observation points. Their accommodation when in the area, as well as certain transport costs are also sponsored by Oystercatcher Trails and Sandpiper Cottages in Boggomsbaai.

The Oystercatcher Trail is excited and proud to advise that it has now become a Registered Trade Mark with Registrar of Trade Marks in terms of section 29(2) of the act.

Due to the popularity of the Oystercatcher Trail, rated as one of the leading hiking trails of it`s kind in the world, it was necessary to protect this iconic brand which has now become quite famous, according to Fred Orban, the owner.

Fred Orban, Owner of theOystercatcher Trail is also the Chair Person of the OYSTER BAY CONSERVATION TRUST.

"This is one of the projects that the Trust has undertaken in order to get communities informed and involved in the conservation of our Environmenta and Historical treasures"
This Trust was established as part of the ROD and is legally obliged to be funded by the Pinnacle Point Golf course developers, for the economic and educational upliftment of the local less priviledged communities.
