The HUNTER GATHERERS Hiking Trail is a “back to basics” experience where we will take you along this beautiful coastline and explore the ways, habits and legacies of the ancient beach dwellers, from the late Stone Age wanderers to the more recent Khoi San clans.

Accommodation is in 2 tented camps. Options are self catering or as an alternative we supply “rat packs”. Highly rated by GETAWAY magazine and by SUNDAY TIMES TRAVEL.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1

Arrive Sandpiper Centre at Boggomsbaai. We guide you to overnight tented camp at Vleesbaai where your vehicles will remain.
Walk to our edge of the ocean viewing deck for welcome drinks and program discussion.
Hike back to your camp and prepare own dinner and braai.

DAY 2

Up early prepare your own breakfast and lunch packs for the day. Tidy camp and set of with our guide across massive sand dunes to ancient fish traps of Khoi San.
Meander along edged of dunes and ocean, viist several middens and stone age workshops and arrive back in Vleesbaai camp late afternoon. This is a hard days hike. Wash up and prepare your own dinner.

DAY 3

Early rise and breakfast preparation. Roll up your sleeping bag and light luggage and set off for Boggomsbaai with our guide. Route varies dependendant on group.
Arrive pondokkie and tent at Boggomsbaai, drop off luggage and sleeping bags and set of along the coast in an easterly direction to marvel at unspoilt beaches and more stone age and Khoi San resting places, Return to pondokkie late afternoon and prepare dinner in your own lapa. Play the drums and bring your own guitar.

DAY 4

Prepare breakfast and lunch packs. We transport you to Gourits river where you will spend the day on kayaks and on the river bank, catching your own fish. We supply equipment. Return to pondokkie late afternoon for preparation of your dinner around the fire.

DAY 5

After breakfast, clean up and pack up camp. Hike to Vleesbaai where you will collect your vehicles and go your own way. Arrival Vleesbaai early afternoon.
